Help out at The Plant
We’re going through some growing pains, trying to determine how to best include volunteers while also meeting our needs. For the time being, we’re limiting volunteering to the Public Volunteer Program, but please check back soon for more updates. Thanks!
Public Volunteer Program
This program is for anyone interested in helping out at The Plant on a casual basis.
Anyone can help out on Public Volunteer Days every Tuesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers who work all day are invited to join us for a free lunch, with vegetarian options available. To participate, the only thing you need to do is email us at volunteer[at]plantchicago.com and let us know you’re coming. Volunteers should arrive at The Plant at least five minutes before each shift. Just ring the doorbell when you arrive and you’ll be told what to do by one of our Construction Volunteer Leaders. Safety waivers are required; you can download it hereand bring one with you or fill it out when you arrive.
Volunteer Groups
The Plant’s staff is extremely small––we have only two full-time and four part-time employees––and this means that we cannot accept volunteer groups of more than five people. Please know that we’re extremely grateful for the offers of help from large groups, but both the nature of the tasks at The Plant and the limited oversight mean that we simply cannot accept that help except on special occasions. If you would like to be notified of such an occasion (occurring maybe two or three times a year), please sign up on our email list (in the righthand side-bar) and select that you want to hear about volunteer opportunities.
If you have a group of five people or fewer, please email us at volunteer[at]plantchicago.com to see if there are upcoming projects we can put you to work on. Thanks!
